With outpatient rehab for addiction you stay living at home between sessions. This way you can carry on with your daily routine and put what you learn straight into practice.

For a milder addiction, we may recommend outpatient treatment. This lets you keep living at home and stay in work, so you can carry on with your daily life as much as possible while you recover. If it turns out that you are coping with any mental health challenges that may trigger or even worsen your addiction, we have the knowledge and experience to treat this dual diagnosis effectively. This could involve ADHD, trauma, burnout or bipolar disorder. If a more intensive approach is needed, Connection Mental Healthcare also offers inpatient treatment at our fully licensed private rehabilitation centre in Cape Town.

Your outpatient programme takes place at our calm, private clinic in Cape Town. You will be matched with a personal therapist who fits your character and your needs. Your programme is built around individual sessions and group therapy, with sessions taking place at least once a week, or intensive treatment with a maximum of five sessions a week.

We always make sure the length and content of your treatment fit your needs. It is worth knowing that outpatient treatment is not the right choice for everyone. To be suitable, you generally need a stable home situation and a certain degree of self-reliance. Since your sessions take place at our centre in Cape Town, it helps if you live or stay within travelling distance. During your addiction assessment, we will help you work out whether an outpatient or inpatient programme suits you best.

We are more than happy to answer your questions and tell you more about how we work. Taking the first step and admitting that you can no longer do this on your own can feel daunting. It takes real strength and courage to talk about your addiction and reach out, and we are here to help the moment you feel ready. Many of the people we help have full lives, jobs and families, and outpatient treatment lets them work on recovery without stepping away from all of that.

“Outpatient treatment works because life carries on around it. People practise what we talk about at home, at work and with their families, and that is where real recovery takes hold.”

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about outpatient rehab

What is outpatient rehab?

Outpatient rehab is addiction treatment you attend on a scheduled basis while continuing to live at home. It combines individual sessions with group therapy, so you can work on recovery alongside your daily routine rather than stepping away from it. It also allows you to put what you learn straight into practice.

Outpatient or inpatient treatment: which is right for you?

It depends on the severity of the addiction and your home situation. Outpatient treatment can suit you if your addiction is milder and you have a stable home environment and a degree of self-reliance, while a more intensive addiction is often better treated with an inpatient stay. We will help you decide during your addiction assessment.

How often will I attend sessions?

Sessions take place at least once a week and are tailored to you. Your plan can combine individual sessions with group therapy, depending on what works best for your recovery.

Can I keep working during outpatient treatment?

Yes. Outpatient treatment is designed to fit around your life, so you can usually keep living at home and stay in work throughout.
