A clean break from cocaine
Choosing cocaine rehab means spending a few weeks somewhere cocaine plays no part in your day. At Connection Mental Healthcare, you stay with us in St James for a personalised programme that usually lasts 28 days. You work one-to-one with your therapist, join group sessions every day and have medical staff on hand day and night.
When cocaine rehab makes sense
Many people come to us after trying to stop on their own: a sober month that ends on the first night out, or a promise that holds until the next payday. If that sounds familiar, or if cocaine is starting to cost you your job, your money or your relationships, a stay in a clinic gives you something that is hard to find at home – time with no way of getting hold of cocaine.
Looking at common cocaine addiction symptoms, such as cravings and failed attempts to cut down, can give you a clearer picture of how far your use has gone. Quitting cocaine on your own works for some people, and knowing where it tends to get difficult helps you judge whether it is the right route for you.
What a week in cocaine rehab looks like
Your days follow a fixed structure. Cocaine use often goes hand in hand with chaotic days – late nights, lost weekends, broken sleep – and a set daily routine helps you build steadier habits you can take home with you. Each week includes at least 4 individual sessions with your therapist, group therapy every day and 3 sessions with a personal trainer.
Rest, food and time outside
Cocaine rehab asks a lot of you, so the programme also leaves room to unwind. Between sessions there is time to rest, and meals are cooked fresh each day by our in-house chefs. Trips to Table Mountain and to see African penguins are also part of the programme. They give you a break from the intensity of therapy.
Therapy during your stay
In therapy, you look at why cocaine became part of your life and practise handling the situations that trigger your use. Cognitive behavioural therapy and relapse prevention play a big part in that, and our cocaine addiction treatment is built around them.
Detox at the start of your stay
Cocaine withdrawal symptoms are not usually life-threatening, but the crash after heavy use can bring on exhaustion, low mood, poor sleep and strong cravings. After prolonged heavy use, cocaine can also trigger a drug-induced psychosis, with symptoms such as paranoia or hallucinations. If that has happened to you, mention it when you call, so we can work out the right care for you before you arrive. If you need a detox, that comes first, with round-the-clock nursing care.
